Exploring activities where we feel a sense of autonomy, freedom and joy is paramount to finding fulfillment in life. For those who are struggling or suffering, it can even more crucial to find the time and space to engage in activities where they transcend the daily battle of overcoming their barriers and limitations.
For those considered neurodivergent, they may face obstacles related to sensory, emotional, environmental or physical, as well as psychological such as 'Learned Helplessness' or 'Pathological Demand Avoidance'.
Whilst it is important to identify and acknowledge these obstacles, we can focus our attention on finding 'work arounds', or pathways where these obstacles become less impeding or restrictive.
Through creative thinking, patience and understanding, we work with the individual and/or their parent/guardian to find any activity that can produce a positive outcome on their wellbeing. Any activity where the individual can express their authentic self is a win.
These activities can provide the ideal opportunity to support emotional awareness (see The Emotional section), to bond and provide positive feedback, and to develop their abilities.
We are happy to partake in any activity that is suggested by the individual or parent/guardian. Below are a couple of options that can be tapered to suit the individuals goals, needs, and limitations.

Engaging in activities where the purpose is solely to have fun, can help individuals release stress or find a 'flow' state which can increase several hormones such as dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin.
Engaging in these various activities provide the opportunities to support the individual in developing abilities related to Physical, Emotional, and Behavioural.
By participating with another person in activities, a sense of trust, rapport and bonding can occur. Not to mention the social skills can be further applied to future similar situations.
It is only through courage and an adventurous spirit that we find the activities that align with our true selves and may open unseen doors down the road.
Knowledge of one's needs, abilities, boundaries and limitations, is an important step in understanding oneself. This self-knowledge slowly turns into confidence, competence and self-esteem.
By mirroring the positive aspects of the individual's abilities and behaviours, the individual begins to explore and share further aspects of true selves.
